How to Export a .eml File from Outlook
Exporting a .eml file from Microsoft Outlook takes just a few steps. The resulting file preserves all headers and message content needed for a full deliverability analysis.
-
1
Open Outlook and locate the email
Find the email you want to test in your inbox. Ideally, this should be an email sent to your Outlook/Hotmail address from your actual sending platform, so headers reflect your real infrastructure.
-
2
Drag the email to your Desktop (Outlook desktop app)
In the Outlook desktop application, simply drag the message from your email list and drop it onto your Desktop. Outlook automatically saves it as a .msg file. For .eml format, use File → Save As and choose "Text Only (*.txt)" then rename the extension to .eml, or use the method below for Outlook on the web.
-
3
Outlook on the web: use "View message source"
In Outlook.com or Outlook Web Access, open the email and click the three-dot menu (More actions). Select "View message source". Copy all the text and paste it into a text editor, then save the file with a .eml extension.

4
Upload to ISP Deliverability
Log in to your dashboard and upload the .eml file. Your Outlook deliverability score and issues report will be ready in seconds.
