How to Export a .eml File from Gmail

ISP Deliverability analyses your email from a .eml file — a standard format that contains the full message including headers, body, and attachments. Here is how to export one from Gmail in three simple steps.

  1. 1

    Open the email in Gmail

Navigate to the email you want to test. This works best with an email you have sent to yourself from your sending domain, so the headers reflect your actual sending infrastructure.

  2. 2

    Click the three-dot menu

In the top-right corner of the email (not the Gmail window), click the three vertical dots icon to open the message actions menu. You will see options such as Reply, Forward, and Print.

  3. 3

    Select "Download message"

Click "Download message" from the dropdown. Gmail will save a file named something like message.eml to your downloads folder. This file is now ready to upload to ISP Deliverability.

  4. 4

    Upload to ISP Deliverability

Log in to your ISP Deliverability dashboard, navigate to your project, and use the "Upload .eml" button to run your deliverability test. Results appear within seconds.

Tip: Send yourself a test first

For the most accurate results, send the email from your actual sending platform (Mailchimp, Postmark, etc.) to a Gmail address you control. The exported .eml will then contain the real authentication headers from your sending infrastructure.
